ManagEnergy hits the road – October Tour 2014

01102014-meSince 2002 ManagEnergy has been supporting local and regional energy agencies across Europe. Spreading good energy management practices, improving skills through capacity building workshops and showcasing the very best projects from local and regional stakeholders has been central to its mission. Twelve years later, ManagEnergy still is an essential European Commission initiative to support local and regional actors in achieving the EU’s ambitious 2020 energy and climate targets.

October will be a busy month for the PRACSIS team in charge of ManagEnergy. Several events will be organised to discuss policy developments, financial mechanisms and ground-breaking projects in the fields of sustainable energy and clean transport. These are:

In addition, PRACSIS consultants will represent ManagEnergy in Barcelona for the event ‘Mayors in Action’ (2-3 October) as well as the Horizon 2020 brokerage event to take place in Lille next 9 October 2014.

PRACSIS sets up European Commission’s stand at Lisbon’s Mega Picnic to celebrate and promote sustainable food

17072014-lisbonBio products are no longer just the obsession of ‘new-agey’ types. In our globalised world where food products are available year-round, there is growing appetite for locally-produced, sustainably-grown farm-based products. A rising segment of the population selects food products based on the location and the way they have been produced. Pesticides and chemicals, often used in mass agricultural production are increasingly avoided by citizens for both health and environmental reasons.

Public authorities at local, regional, national and European levels, as well as private actors are joining forces to promote high quality food products across the EU. The City of Brussels hosts annually the Bruxelles-Champêtre event which is meant to put citizens in touch—literally—with the concepts of sustainable food chains, ecosystems, ecological production and rural development. Last month, it was Lisbon’s turn to promote these concepts and consumer goods. That was the purpose of Continente’s Mega PicNic, which took place on 29 June.

Like with Bruxelles-Champêtre, PRACSIS was responsible for the design and set up of the European Commission’s stand. The Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development was present to inform the public about the benefits of the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP). PRACSIS set up an exhibition area of 300m2 with diverse and attractive animations: A wheel of fortune, a photo station for kids to pose with an adorable cow, a quiz and information space about EU agriculture and rural development policies, an animation area  promoting EU-labelled products, and fun gifts such as magnets and seed bags.

Brand, Mind & Strategy (BMS), PRACSIS’s partnering agency in Portugal and member of EURACSIS demonstrated its effectiveness in deploying logistical solutions, providing technical equipment and recruiting competent staff.

The event was a massive success as more than six hundred thousand people enjoyed the countryside right in the center of Lisbon, with 1501 seedling beds (2420m2), 38 crops (4023m2), 137 fruit trees (1603m2) and 332 animals (2744m2) plus a mega fruit and vegetable garden.

If you wish to learn the secrets of farming and ecologically produced fruits, vegetables and other products, do not miss the next edition of Bruxelles-Champêtre, 21 September in Brussels. It will certainly be another great PRACSIS event.

PRACSIS and PR CONCEPT join forces in Tartu

20140516-bigThe lovely city of Tartu welcomes annually the largest agriculture fair in Estonia: MAAMESS. Last edition took place 24 -25 April. Under a shining sun, thousands of visitors attended, discovered and participated in various activities in an exhibition space of 50.000 square meters, with more than 300 companies, agricultural organisations and public institutions  represented.

The European Commission’s Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) didn’t want to miss the opportunity of promoting its policies, programmes and benefits to Estonian agribusiness professionals and their families.

As DG AGRI’s main event organiser, PRACSIS designed and built a stand of 56 m² where visitors were encouraged to taste different EU-labelled products, play the wheel of fortune, exercise while cooking with a blender bike and provide answers to the quiz desk.

The stand was well equipped technically-speaking, with mics, sound and lighting system and a 46” screen showing the latest clip of the Common Agriculture Policy campaign. Many giveaways were distributed: USB keys, reflector snap bands, cotton and seed bags magnets.

With the valuable assistance of PR Concept, the PRACSIS partner agency in Estonia, the overall workflow of this very important event couldn’t have gone better.  Indeed the DG AGRI stand was a real success – and so was the general attendance – over 30.000 people visited the fair during the two days. But there is one last answer we would like to have: which one of PRACSIS-planned activities was the most successful? You’ve got it – the gastronomy-tasting ones!

Vilnius hosts European Commission’s Seminar on Rural Development Communication

20140430This past March the city of Vilnius welcomed a DG AGRI seminar on Communicating Rural Development. The event looked at efficient communication strategies to support the implementation of EU rural development programmes.  EU officials, communication professionals, members of rural networks and local action groups gathered to discuss the best and most effective communication strategies in support of rural development policies and involved communities.

EURACSIS, the PRACSIS network of communication agencies, proved crucial to the success of this event. The Lithuanian agency AVENIRE displayed its expertise and mobilised its network to deliver appropriate solutions: from identifying suitable venues, to selecting skilled conference staff and assisting in translation services. Cooperation between PRACSIS and AVENIRE overcame difficult challenges to produce fruitful results. For instance, two interpreters travelled from Belgium to support six interpreters from Lithuania who, together, ensured high quality simultaneous interpretation in English, Lithuanian German, and French. AVENIRE was also of great assistance in recruiting hostesses and stewards who could speak both English and French fluently.

Teamwork is the key to success. PRACSIS and AVENIRE perfectly illustrated this principle, confirming the added value of a network such as EURACSIS.
