EU-ASEAN Dialogue on GreenTech & Innovation Mapping - From innovative green technologies to business e-ready Solutions

Aim of the project

As a pilot project, focusing on three pilot sectors, Plastic Waste Management, Sustainable Manufacturing and Covid-19, GreenTech demonstrates the feasibility and value of EU-ASEAN green technology transfer that accelerates the availability of a new generation of sustainable technologies that enable ASEAN member states to use natural resources in a responsible way, eliminate emissions and waste, and enable green energy, manufacturing and transport and enable a circular economy. This is key to reorienting their economies from previous unsustainable development trajectories towards a Green Economy that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

For this, GreenTech focused on three action areas:

  1. Create initial awareness and platforms for dialogues on Technology Markets & Innovators to promote EU-ASEAN Technology cooperation and transfer through intensive stakeholder dialogues in pilot events and related key stakeholder interaction;

  2. Evidence-based identification of high-potential candidates for EU-ASEAN technology-based cooperation and transfer;

  3. Proof of feasibility through initiation and support of matchmakings between EU and ASEAN green technology transfer partners and tangible pilot business-to-business technology transfer cooperation and transfer projects.

This work was implemented in close collaboration with EU and ASEAN stakeholders, including high-level representatives of ASEAN and EU institutions, ASEAN member states, industry and research.

The results and learnings from these pilot activities are the basis for a following ASEAN-wide roll-out.

Solutions provided by Pracsis

The work included the following concrete services provided and results achieved:

  • To create initial awareness and platforms for dialogues to promote EU-ASEAN Technology cooperation and transfer, 8 webinars, attracting >5000 participants from all ASEAN and multiple EU Member States with 63 speakers from almost all ASEAN Member States and various EU Members were realised.

  • Beyond this webinar series, one international conference on Cooperating with Europe on Green Manufacturing Technologies with four pre-conference Practitioner Workshops and 12 speaking contributions to international conferences and multiple direct interactions with stakeholders in ASEAN and EU were realised.

  • The proof of feasibility was provided through a total of seven tangible pilot projects, in which EU and ASEAN partners agreed to cooperate on the transfer or joint development of specific green technologies could be initiated.

  • These EUI-ASEAN cooperation projects were developed in a systematic, methodological process, which started from evidence-based identification of high-potential candidates for EU-ASEAN technology-based cooperation and transfer, that identified a “short list” of approx. 20 transfer opportunities who’s technological and application potential justifies efforts to initiate transfer projects. For these transfer candidates, our team identified and matched potential technology providers and technology users.

  • In a following step, the team moderated and supported cooperation negotiations between interested and committed partners from EU and ASAN to reach tangible collaboration agreements. Out of this work grew the abovementioned seven successfully initiated tangible transfer cooperation projects, which are currently implemented.
