War in Ukraine

Hybrid press conference at the European Committee of the Regions

Brussels & Ukraine, 27 April 2022  (16:30-17:30 CET)

Ukraine is European” – Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko

The European Committee of the Regions will help rebuild what was destroyed” – President of the European Committee of the Regions,  Apostolos Tzitzikostas, reminding that Kyiv became the first honorary member of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) in March 2022.

Pracsis produced an online and presential press conference which took place in parallel to the plenary session of the CoR in Brussels.  We organized the event in less than 24h, setup a connection and interpretation with Ukraine, the Berlaymont and the CoR.

Apostolos Tzitzikostas, President of the European Committee of Regions met with two Ukrainian leading figures: Vitaly Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv (intervening remotely) and Tetiana Yehorova-Lutsenko, Chairwoman of the Kharkiv Regional Council.

President Tzitzikostas expressed his support for Ukraine, condemned Russia and called for the end of the war, while underlining the bravery of Ukrainian citizens against the invader. The CoR supported the sanctions against Russia and Belarus and underlined the huge work done by Poland in order to protect Ukrainian refugees. The president said the CoR wants to rebuild Ukrainian cities and develop cooperation with Ukraine.

In order to rebuild the country, the Committee supports the creation of a tool for its members to cut red tape and bureaucracy and ease access to existing EU funds

Vitali Klitschko replied to journalists in English and spoke about the fight against Russia. The mayor of the first honorary member of the CoR, Kyiv, Klitschko said Ukraine is European in its mentality and history and has to implement European values.  To him, Ukraine fights for European values: human rights, freedom of the press, and democratic standards. He believes Ukraine will win but he doesn’t see the end of the war yet. Klitschko thanked the CoR for its support.

Tetiana Yehorova-Lutsenko spoke after Mr Klitschko and said she too believes that Ukraine is a European country and that it wishes to be in the European Union.  She also believes that further cooperation with Ukraine is very important and is thankful to the CoR for its support.

Pracsis is very proud to have produced this press conference on the war in Ukraine and to have contributed to the dissemination of news on European support in Ukraine.

EU Summit of Regions and Cities goes hybrid

In March, Pracsis organized the 9th European Summit of Regions and Cities, in Marseille, for the European Committee of the Regions. With 2000 participants on site and another 1000 online, the summit was one of Pracsis’s largest and most technically complex conferences to date, largely due to the combined in-person and virtual components.

The two-day event had a packed program with high-level speakers and wide-ranging discussions on the topics of democracy, cohesion, inclusion, education and youth. The burgeoning war in Ukraine dominated much of the debate, with EU leaders in attendance pledging their support to Ukraine and its people.

Pracsis handled general coordination of the many suppliers and subcontractors in addition to web registration, and all the online hybrid aspects of the event. Pracsis built a login platform for accepted registrants to attend the various sessions remotely while enjoying the same language interpretation available to those on site. Pracsis also managed three simultaneous (multilingual) web streams alongside the video conferencing components.

The main plenary hall featured an enormous screen, which was put to good use by displaying a mosaic of online participants.

Pracsis also built a virtual exhibition for the event, which remains open! Visit it here. You can now stroll through the virtual corridors of the exhibition and visit the stands of more than 50 organizations to watch videos, consult or download brochures, and visit online resources. Don’t forget to leave your contact info if you want to get in touch with the exhibitors.

Pracsis used its expertise on ISO 20121 to improve the sustainability of this event.

To organise a sustainable and inclusive event, Pracsis drafted a sustainable event charter addressed to all organisers and suppliers. This event charter was adopted by the CoR and Région Sud and showcased on the event website.

Tips and recommendations were also integrated into the online event registration platform and displayed on screens at the welcome desk to encourage environmentally friendly behavior of attendees.

Pracsis took measures to support the local community (by working with local suppliers and service providers), optimise transport and accommodation, enforce good waste management, and ensure accessibility to everyone attending virtually and in person.

A new milestone for PRACSIS: ISO 20121 certification for sustainable events

On 3 September 2021, Bureau Veritas granted PRACSIS the ISO 20121 certification for sustainable events– a first in Belgium!

This certification marks the successful outcome of an audit process which demonstrated the quality of PRACSIS’ working processes. It marks culmination of PRACSIS’s long-term commitment to environmental, social and economic best practices.

The ISO 20121 certification establishes that PRACSIS is committed to setting clear sustainability targets, creating action plans, monitoring and measuring KPIs, and pursuing continual improvement.

In a nutshell, ISO 20121 is applicable to any organisation involved with all types of events, including conferences, congresses, exhibitions, competitions, training sessions, ceremonies, etc. It is as relevant for small conference meetings as large-scale events. ISO 20121 demonstrates in a globally recognised manner, that consistent standards are respected when implementing and upholding core sustainability principles.

Pracsis supports second all digital #EURegionsWeek

In October, Pracsis helped organize and run—for the second time—the EU Week of Regions. This was the 19th edition of the Committee of the Regions’ flagship event and the second time that it was held entirely online, due to the pandemic.

Pracsis planned and facilitated 56 virtual sessions that took place over just four days! That meant a lot of events run in parallel, each packed with their own interactive features and media: breakout rooms, language interpretation, slideshows, videos, and live polling.

Over 1500 people participated in Pracsis’s 56 sessions. They included European, national, regional and local government officials and politicians; representatives of private companies, financial institutions and European and national associations; academics, researchers; plus other members of the public that wanted their voices heard.

The Committee of the Regions has another multi-session online conference coming up in November, EuroPCom 2021, “the largest annual meeting point for experts in the field of public communication.” This year, Pracsis built the registration platform for the event—sign up by clicking the link below!
