Brussels ECO-Guides

Client: Brussels Institute for Management of the Environment (IBGE/BIM)
Services/Activities: Communication Strategy, Innovative networking, Events
Duration of project: 1999 - 2002
Aim of the project: The Eco-Guide project was set up in the framework of a Brussels prevention plan for waste management. The project organised a large number of activities to stimulate direct contact and dialogue with citizens in order to encourage them to adopt environmentally friendly waste management practices and hence reduce their household waste.
Solutions provided by PRACSIS: PRACSIS developed the Eco-Guide Campaign by district through the creation and realisation of a wide variety of communication tools and public demonstrations given by a team of professional and ecologically trained "Eco-Guides". The aim of the Eco-Guides was to stimulate public awareness, attract the public's participation and encourage events and initiatives. The following activities were successfully organised:
  • Graphic campaign and communication tools: development of the stands, brochures, mobile compost waste bins, uniforms for the eco-guides.
  • Setting up of an "Eco-Guides" team with the mission to recruit, educate, and attract the public's attention in public places (such as markets, parks, shopping malls, exhibitions, etc.), schools and associations.
  • Stimulating the local organisation of "clean street" events.
  • Ongoing presence of the Eco-Guides in 12 districts, to organise activities involving local businesses and to promote waste prevention ideas.
