The 'BUILD UP' Initiative

Aim of the project: In 2009, the Commission has launched its BUILD UP initiative to increase the awareness of all parties in the building chain of the saving potential which remains untapped. BUILD UP therefore promotes better and smarter buildings across Europe by connecting building professionals, local authorities and citizens. Its interactive web portal catalyses and releases Europe’s collective intelligence for an effective implementation of energy-saving measures in buildings.

The BUILD UP web portal shares and promotes existing knowledge, guidelines, tools and best practices for energy-saving measures in buildings across Europe. At the same time, it informs and updates the market about the legislative framework in terms of goals, practical implications and future revisions.

The BUILD UP web portal is an influential and interactive European tool engaging powerful networks and well-established umbrella organizations in a proactive commitment to energy efficient buildings. As such, the web portal encourages communications, transfer and promotion of existing information and knowledge, guidelines, tools and best practices for energy savings measures in buildings across Europe.

Solutions provided by PRACSIS: Concretely, PRACSIS is responsible for:
  • Project management: Together with the consortium partners and subcontractors, PRACSIS is responsible for the selection of the project management team, the setting of performance indicators, and organisation of the project as a whole
  • PR Desk: A focused marketing approach using the most effective PR strategies with concrete messages generates a higher interest for “better buildings” and motivates a change of behaviour across the building chain actors. A permanent PR Desk for Partnership with other organizations and Partners is set up. Strategic planning and recruitment of national multipliers organizations and Partners, promoting their actions and best practices of energy savings measures in buildings on a European level is sought.
  • Media relations: PRACSIS implements a focused and regular approach of pan-European media coverage. In order to enhance the visibility of the 'BUILD UP' initiative, an effective media strategy aimed at the target groups is developed. Well-founded information from specialized media is provided to journalists, who write trustworthy articles on buildings thematic issues and deliver written quality press.

  • Promotional activities: Together with an attractive website branding a strong identity of the platform, most promotional activities are focusing on specialist stakeholders. Strategically, PRACSIS is both consolidating the socio-professional links accumulated in the past and seeking new audiences in the EU-27.
  • Events and conferences: PRACSIS has identified and is participating in several fairs, events and conferences to raise awareness about the project
